Antoneus Maximus (Antuan Tran) is undoubtedly the biggest name in Vietnamese hip hop. Self-professed ‘non-rapper’ (“I don’t just rap, I’m an artist,” Tran says), Antoneus and his Nuthouze Band blend styles of Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, Funkadelic, Fishbone and even Snoop Dogg to create a modern day carnival feel to their music.
In Vietnam, Antoneus is signed with Early Risers Media and has a Hit Single called “Em So Dep” which appeared on the movie “De Mai Tinh”, Vietnam’s #1 movie for 2010. Overseas, Antoneus has represented Vietnam’s skillz with international artists such as The Black Eyed Peas, Gnarls Barkley, Kid (Legendary Kid n Play), Patrick Swayze, Raz B (Platinum selling group “B2K”), Bobby Brown, Too Short and Kurupt (Dogg Pound) helping to cement his reputation as a talent to be reckoned with.
Tran’s goal is to collaborate with some of Vietnam’s local hip hop talent and help in expanding and moving Hip Hop culture forward in his Mother Country. With new albums in the pipe line, Antoneus and Nuthouz Band continue to keep the party rocking!
